4.Each fall, the Library's Visitor Services Office offers a 16 week training program for volunteer docents who will gain the skills necessary to lead tours of the Library's historic Thomas Jefferson building. The 2009 training classes for docents will begin on Sept. 8, 2009.

5.Brinley Franklin, Vice Provost, University Libraries, University of Connecticut Libraries, began a one-year term as President of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) on October 15, 2009, during the ARL Fall Membership Meeting held in Washington DC. He succeeds Tom Leonard, Kenneth and Dorothy Hill University Librarian, Professor, Graduate School of Journalism, University of California, Berkeley, Library. Leonard continues to serve as a member of the ARL Board of Directors and Executive Committee as Past President.
