China is called factory in the world and is long. The field of lighting is also imported from China for many light sources, luminaires, etc. LS: 11 were held successfully in Shanghai in May, 2007, and 26th CIE conference were held successfully in Beijing in July, 2007. Since the key men of the lighting industry have written about a Chinese lighting situation, this paper describes the lighting situation from the point of the experience and the knowledge in China.

Illumination is said to be a part of a culture, and the culture is closely related to races and ethnic groups. As we travel in various countries in Asia, we often feel some kind of nostalgia in illumination, as if we are still in Japan. The special topic, "Illuminations in Neighboring Countries", introduces situations surrounding illuminations in the neighboring countries, which are making contributions along with us to the further development of Asia. The Part I gives a highlight on China that is now called the World's Factory, and going through remarkable development. This article also gives introduction to China Illuminating Engineering Society.

The most important one for lighting design of buildings, [Standard for Lighting Design of Buildings], issued on 2004, is explained in more detail.
