The causes of stiff shoulders are varied. It is discomfort symptoms which include shoulder stiffness, tenderness, sluggishness, and sometimes whole-body stiffness. They are from congestion and edema caused by contraction of muscle fibers of the shoulder girdle muscle group when having strain on the muscles around the shoulders. In recent years, there is a smartphone syndrome causing various symptoms such as headache, stiff neck and shoulders, eye strain, dry eyes, and insomnia associated with prolonged use of smartphones. The subject is a female, age 39, is experiencing symptoms of stiffness from the neck to the shoulders and arms caused from extended use of smartphones on a daily basis. I performed aroma treatment on her once in seven days in total for 8 times, and observed the QOL progress, using the KK scale method.
